CANNES FILM FESTIVAL 2010
My sister’s profession allows her to travel around the world going to film festivals (tough life, I know). When I can, I fly around the globe to meet her and wander around the festivals solo while she works. This year was my second time attending the Cannes Film Festival in the South of France, an inspiring event in every dimension, including fashion. The air buzzes with fresh sea breeze, crepes, movie stars and of course, fashion.

Because of her connections we secured two tickets to a red carpet premier one of the last nights I was there. I agonized about not having a long, elegant dress to strut the carpet in, but certainly couldn’t afford any of the crazy expensive boutiques in Cannes (like Dior and Chanel). I ironed a red ensemble purchase from Buffalo Exchange just months before, curled my hair, and hoped I wouldn’t be too shamed by the critics - not that anyone would be looking at me!

The red carpet experience was hands down one of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced. We stood in a holding area after the festival staff approved our formal attire and watched the premier prior walk out on the red carpet. We were lucky enough to catch Woody Allen exiting, standing just feet from my tingling toes and gaping open mouth. Next, it was our turn to head into the theatre.

The paparazzi are all in tuxedos, lined along the sides of the 10 yard wide carpeted entrance. The lights flashed and they played an upbeat song as the masses were released to the velvety red carpet of bliss. We stopped every few seconds to take pictures of ourselves (yes, like total tourists but this moment HAD to be captured). We smiled and laughed and gloriously floated through the procession into the screening. I barely even remember the movie we saw because I was on such a high from the events prior.

I’m saving my pennies to afford joining her there again next year, and you can bet that I’ll be bringing some of my favorites with me in case I get another shot at the walk of fame - KORS, Prada, Gucci and Dolce.
